Alterations Made Along the Way

I have made a few alterations along the way. When filming, I have decided to not use parts that were in my storyboard, for example I did not use the shots of newspapers, and replaced it with a shot of everything that is on the table, to give the audience an idea of what the antagonist is doing on the table. The mid shot shows photographs of victims, and cut up newspaper words which the antagonist will rearrange later on in the film.

I also had to change who I was going to have as the antagonist in my film opening, as the people who I asked to do it before cancelled. I ended up getting a female, which I did not originally want as I wanted my antagonist as a male, however in the film opening the audience cannot tell if the antagonist is a female, which creates suspicion to what gender the antagonist is.

Editing Software

For my film opening I will be using Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects. I will be mainly using Adobe After Effects as I plan to be creative in my opening, by having the film clips cutting from one another quickly, and editing the colour of the clips to make them dark.

Planning of Music

I have a few ideas for music. The music will last throughout the whole opening, and the music is the only thing that will be heard. I have chosen to do this because of the research I have done on my survey shows that having music for an opening was popular. The four songs I got down to where as follows:

- Detective Danger
- Double Crossed
- Home Invasion
- Only Human

I think I will use 'Detective Danger' in my opening, however I will have to make the sound longer as it is only 1.40 minutes long, and the shortest time my film opening can be is 2 minutes. I will loop the music a bit to make it 2 minutes long.

Planning of Titles

My titles will be very important in my opening. I plan to make my titles appear on the screen, similar to the film I done most research on; Se7en. I will use a creepy font, and I plan for my credits to stay up 3 seconds long, because this is how long they stayed up for other Gangster film openings I have researched. The titles will be on a black screen in the colour white, and on the actual footage. The titles will be edited to flash up on the screen, similar into Se7en as I think it’s a great way to add extra effect to the titles. I have also chosen the titles to be white as other film openings I have done research on such as Gosford Park has used white titles, making it stand out on the screen. There are 20 titles in the film Se7en, however I will only use 13 of these titles for my opening, as I think some titles are inappropriate. The font I will be using is Chiller, as I think it links to the film opening Se7en the most, and looks spooky. I plan for the titles saying what the person has doing to be in capitals, and the name of the person to be in lower case (while starting with a capital letter).

Structure of my Narrative

My film opening will start with lots of different small video clips edited together to form an opening. Some ideas I had for shots were a close up of a knife or a gun, and a guy writing words on paper, and cutting words on the paper out, and placing them in order. Each shot will be around 2 to 6 seconds long, so I will need lots of different shots for my opening. The antagonist will be preparing/making stuff on the table, and there will be various shots of paper saying ‘wanted for murder’ and a close up of a knife, to show that he is the antagonist. It also foreshadows something bad to happen later on in the film, as the film Se7en has done too. The antagonist is also cutting up paper and replacing it, this is done to make the opening seem more realistic, as it doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t follow through. My opening will not have a particular story, just the antagonist preparing stuff on the table, and the reason for it will be unknown.

I have also made a timeline to show where my credits will go, and how long each clip will last on the screen for.

Props List

Highlighter - to either cross out words or highlight them, highlighter colour is either black or dark purple.

Pen and paper - to write words on that could link to murder.

Scissors - to cut out paper, so they can be replaced in order.

Photographs of victims - to show that this is the antagonist, and that the photographs of the people are the ones that he will murder, or has murdered. Creates suspense.

Fake blood - to add the effect of horror of him killing people. It could help symbolise that he has killed people before, or is the antagonist. The fake blood will be placed on the knife and on pictures. I will make the fake blood out of icing sugar and red food dye.

Knife - foreshadows that something bad will happen.

Black blanket - to put on the table, to cover up any background, and to put the props on for the film.

Photograph of Location

I will be filming my opening in my kitchen at my house, as I think the lighting is good and it's an open space, and it'll be easier to re-film anything if needed.

Costume Planning

I only plan to have one character in my film opening, which is the antagonist. His clothing may not be shown, however I will have the actor to wear dark clothing. The clothing may not be shown as I will be doing a sequence of close up shots, just revealing his hands. The antagonist will wear a black t-shirt and black trousers, as this reflects that he is evil, and gives the film a spooky feel.
